Stunning Christmas Dance Show
Wows Banbury!
Hundreds of people, both children and adults, were treated to a fantastic display of Latin and Ballroom dance hosted by Step By Step Dance School at The Mill Arts Theatre last Saturday. Participants ranged from beginners to professional dance champions, performing their dance skills and talents to eagerly awaiting proud parents and families.
The action packed day began at high noon with a fabulous presentation of dances performed by 70 beginners from 5 different classes, with ages ranging between just 5 to 13 years old. Pupils travelled from Steeple Claydon and Brackley Tuesday and Saturday group to join two further Banbury groups, including one from a local primary school, Queensway School. 140 parents and families cheered and clapped along to the music as they supported their young ones dancing their little hearts out! Performances included the Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Jive, Waltz, and Polka. So many steps for such young dancers who executed them perfectly making them look so easy! Joyful tears and appreciative smiles were firmly etched on the faces of those leaving the performance, with comments of praise and a desire for an eagerly anticipated next instalment!
The theatre refilled with a full house at 3pm for the start of a stunning display of competitors dancing for medals and trophies, many for the first time. Three categories of entries promised tantalising excitement, colourfully displayed with gowns, sequins, frills and impressively tailored dinner jackets. Strictly eat your heart out!! A wide-eyed audience shared the performances with an International panel of esteemed champion judges, who had the impossible task of choosing winners amongst a plethora of talent.
All the competitors and attendees to the Step By Step Dance School Christmas party that evening were privileged to amazing displays of both Latin and Ballroom dance from our visiting dance guests, 'Daniel Power and Stevie Jones' aged just 17 and 15 respectively. Just 3 weeks ago they came 3rd in the European Under 21 Championships in Blackpool Winter Gardens! Mouths opened wide and chins dropped at the stunning performances they gave, awe and amazement visible at the ability of those so young, and a wonderful inspiration to our young dancers who saw what could be achieved with hard work and dedication from a couple who have been dancing since the age of just 6 years old!
The evening Christmas Party for all Step By Step adults continued in this vane with beautiful live music from ‘Lady Blue’, and with further performances by Daniel and Stevie, but more specifically and spectacularly, a chance to watch the winning Strictly Come Dancing ‘Dancers in Need’ performances by the dance school’s own Founder, International Dance Champion, Andrzej Mialkowski and BBC’s Radio Northampton’s Jules Morgan. It was absolutely brilliant, and stunningly surprising to think that Jules only 6 weeks to learn all 3 dances! Well done Jules! It just goes to show what a talent Andrzej is and how lucky the dance school is to have his skill, dedication and inspiration to pass on to its pupils.
January promises to be a very exciting time, with even more dance classes and opportunities for children and adults alike to take up this popular and spectacular activity. Step By Step Dance School would like wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year, and would like to invite all you budding dancers to look at their web site and find out about a dance class near you so that you too can be part of events such as this and you can dance with the stars!!
